How this estimate works
Drying time depends mostly on the material and how saturated it is. Tile and sealed concrete give up water fastest, drywall and framing take longer, and a bare slab, particleboard subfloor, hardwood or plaster, which the IICRC S500 treats as dense Class 4 materials, dry slowest. Larger areas, a wet crawl space and muggy summer air add time.
The estimate assumes air movers and LGR dehumidifiers running continuously with the room closed, and daily readings. The real finish line is a reading, not a date: equipment comes out when wet materials are within 2 to 4 points of a dry reference. See structural drying for how the process works.
Every day wet adds to the drying time.
Getting air movers and dehumidifiers running early is the biggest factor anyone controls.
